these days, when it appears that top officials who should be protecting us are attacking
At craigslist, we're really lucky that our culture of trust means very few problems.
However, we have a certain amount of scams, harassment, even threats of violence.
I take that really seriously, even personally, considering that my name is on the site.
This creates a real tension between the need to deal with the few bad guys we get,
and our obligation to do the right thing.
It ain't easy, but so far the most demanding
cases we've seen are where we can observe something that's clearly criminal. Even so,
we adhere to the Electronic Communication Privacy Act (ECPA), which requires that we
get served with a subpeona or court order to reveal identifying info. That applies to cops
