At first I was pretty cynical about it, but then I reflected on what I've learned from craigslist:
- people are pretty trustworthy, and are basically good, with a small number of exceptions
- we all take our own individual moral compass for granted
- we all want to play fair and want others to do
In an area as critical as journalism, I think it might just be a great idea to get people to stand up, and maybe fine tune that moral compass.
This conflicts with my affection for cynicism, but I've done a lot of customer service, have heard from a lot of people, and I think this is what people want.
