Hey, slashdot, subtitled "news for nerds" is regular reading for me, and is a genuine innovator regarding news moderation and reputation systems.
I just heard Rob talk at this real estate tech conference here from Inman news, really good.
Rob feels the the core value of his site is the "joy of technology", which I like a lot.
Turns out, slashdot has a lot of history, and problems, in common, with craigslist:
- started as a hobby by a computer guy
- open source tech, like Linux, drives it
- similar architecture, including caching and MySQL use
- trolls and people who misuse relay proxies for anonymity
