hey, the folks at Consumers Union do some of the best investigative work on media matters, and here's the update.

Media Consolidation Hearing Provides a Lesson in How Not to Cover the News

Media General's news operation in Tampa is regularly cited by proponents of media consolidation to illustrate the possible benefits of allowing a single big media company to dominate a local market. But it's fair to say MG didn't exactly shine in the early minutes of its live coverage of a Federal Communications Commission hearing on media consolidation in Tampa today.

Earlier today, before I signed up for a Type Key i.d., I said:
Craigslist could fight the consolidation of media, in one way, by opening up a National Multiple Listing Service. (MLS.)
CL already allows real estate for sale ..ads.
It should re-structure them into an easily viewed/accessed format: by state, county, city and town, and so on.
I would recommend charging a modest fee: $88. for as long as the seller wants it. Give the money to a CL Land Trust, to help other folk invest into land ownership. I am an SF realtor, in the Inner Sunset District, near "Ninth and Judah", and have a few fellow activists across the country, who would help in this effort. It would lead to other real estate reforms, and the democratization of the practice of realty, which certainly can use it…
