MAPLight.org's newest government transparency tool shines a light on the river of money that runs through all Congressional committees. Check out this example of a consumer-centric credit card bill, H.R. 5244 – the Credit Cardholders' Bill of Rights, that, if passed, would protect consumers from arbitrary interest rate hikes and misleading advertising. The bill may never make it to the floor for a vote. Why? Perhaps it's because banks, credit card agencies and other financial interest groups that oppose the bill have given 'millions' of dollars to legislators in the House Committee on Financial Services. Oh yeah, and it's perfectly legal.
