Squirrel always wins! Why? He/she's more motivated to eat birdseed than feeder designer is motivated to get inside squirrel's head! :)

I put up a "squirrel feeder" from Wal-Mart on a post in the back yard and filled it full of squirrel food for the single squirrel who was here when we moved in.
Soon, his entire family was here, and I was filling it daily.
Last time I filled it, I noticed that they're chewing away at the edge of the redwood that holds the plexiglass in the hopper, so they can get all of the food out at one time, rather than have to just eat out of the bottom.
Rats with big, bushy tails. But cute.

We have that type of feeder, used to hang them from a tree branch but now hang them on a double shepherd's hook away from the tree jumping-off points. Works like a charm:

These work great for suet, except for the smallest squirrels which can squeeze through the cage holes:
