Good suggestions re government use of the Net from the UK

mysociety.org is doing a lot of really good work using the Net for governance in the UK.

Last week, I documented FixMyStreet, a smartphone app for government customer service.

They' also documented their top five suggestions for the use of the Net by governemnt. Ellen Miller from Sunlight Foundation summarizes them well here, but my favorite is the first:

Hire people who understand the Internet and the potential it has for government.

That'd include a CTO or National Technology Advisor or similar.

"Hiring" people who get it–critical, but let's also use current resources. In addition to known superstars like Bev Godwin at USA.GOV, Janice Nall at CDC and Molly O'Neill at EPA there are great web managers and directors and enlightened CIOs and program managers who have been toiling in the background. And a host of new entries into public service who are ready to help make a change!
