Hey, I guess it's time to talk more about this, but remember, we can't comment on current investigations.

As part of the craigslist customer service team, even I've worked with cops and DAs to send away a number of crooks.

Jim puts it better, in a new article:

Craigslist CEO: Crooks who use site will be caught

The chief executive of Craigslist has a message for people who try
to use the popular Internet advertising site to commit crimes: You're
going to get caught.

Violent crimes linked to Craigslist
ads in Boston and Minnesota have made headlines, but CEO Jim Buckmaster
said Wednesday the site is an "extremely unsafe venue for criminal
activity because you're virtually guaranteeing that you're going to get
caught."

"That's been the case with nearly every serious
violent crime that's been connected with the site," Buckmaster said in
a telephone interview from San Francisco, where Craiglist is based.
"There's an electronic trail leading to yourself. So don't use
Craigslist for crime unless you want to go to jail."

As a recovering sex addict who frequented your site's erotic services section, I must ask why, after all this time, with all that goes on (and has gone on) in this section, why do you STILL insist on keeping this section alive?
How about this? If you feel it is important to keep it open for the benefit of "legitimate" escorts and massage therapists (why use the word "erotic" then?), then I suppose you should have no trouble requiring them to list their respective escort and massage licences in the ad, so that law enforcement officials can check it against current records.

Just mentioning this, but I think the police blaming Craigslist for any of the things I've been reading about lately is ridiculous. The same types of ads are on websites in every single state and large city in America. Even in my area, the local alternative newspaper has the same kinds of ads.
As long as there is freedom of speech, and you're not specifically pimping anyone, it's on the people who leave the messages and the people who go to them to deal with whatever comes.
So, you've at least got my support. :-)

Please shut down the erotic services section of the site. This section promotes the exploitation of women. It is unconscionable to continue with this part of the site when it has been linked with a death.

I am also asking that you shut down this section, while there may be some "legitimate" services offered here, the fact of the matter is that pimps use this site to prostitute out teenagers and it is unconsciounable to me as well when you look at the risks that far outweigh the benifits. Is it really worth our children?

Hmm I don't see anyone picking on the LA Weekly. They have a huge classified ad section promoting various massage services and stuff. And we're never informed about users of those classifieds that go awry, & I'm sure they have.
