Obama-signs-bill (1) Hey, things continue to turn around for those who sacrifice so much for us.
President Signs Two Major Provisions for New Veterans into Law

“Washington is finally paying more than lip service to our
troops. Today, the Commander-in-Chief refocused the nation’s attention
on the tremendous sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and
delivered significant change. With this signature, our government is
finally paying its debt to thousands of stop-lossed troops and showing
gratitude to the families of our fallen heroes. Both provisions will
mean real money in the pockets of those who deserve it most,” said IAVA
Executive Director Paul Rieckhoff.  “As the July 4th
holiday approaches, this is a strong display of patriotism by the
country’s lawmakers. IAVA thanks President Obama and Congress for
continuing to make troops, veterans and their families a priority.”

Under the retroactive stop-loss payment provision, servicemembers
held beyond their enlistment contracts before October 2008 could
receive on average $5,000 in back-pay.  The “Fry
Scholarship,” named after fallen Marine Gunnery Sgt. John David Fry,
from Lorena, Texas, would authorize the Department of Defense to
transfer a maximum of 36-months of education benefits to surviving
children of servicemembers who have died while on active-duty since
9/11.

Hi Craig,
Thanks so much for posting this…I do think it's a step in the right direction to recognize, with real money, servicemembers' contributions to the American agenda and Global society, this is something upon most agree…no matter what side of good or bad you may fall under for their roles.
I am very concerned, however, that this provision does not include anyone that may have been dismissed for being gay or lesbian under "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" politics, laws. As President Obama has shown, all it takes is a flick of the pen and intention to change the course of the future.
If I could influence the Presidnet in any way, it would be for him to stand couragiously to stop discrimination against people on all accounts, right here at home, today. I take courage that the struggle for equality has lead us this far on the journey and countless changes have already been made. I keep faith that we will all be free to love in the light of day, as a global community…but they say I'm just a dreamer…
Craig, if there is anything you can do to help spread this message to President Obama, I would appreciate your support. I am also willing to represent this request in any setting that is appropriate. The issue of inequality for our servicemembers is hurting American familys, right now.
Peace and best wishes for you and yours,
~ Erin
