State Dept funds social networking for real grassroots democracy

The State Department is increasingly serious about spreading democracy throughout the world, and has announced a program for the mideast that uses social media for grassroots democracy.

The deal is to fund the development of social network systems, this gives people a voice, from the bottom up, about how their countries should be governed.

More fundamentally, it's an expression ultimately of mutual trust that reminds people of the restoration of American ideals by the American government. We're serious about the practice of democracy, again.

This is great news. It has its risks, but I truly believe if the "people" had a real voice in these countries, we may not have the issues we have currently. This is something to track.
