I'm Giving $100K to Support Teachers Working in Military Family Classrooms – Can You Help?

Hey, I've said it before and I'll say it again: teachers don't get the support and recognition that they deserve. And, too often, they're taking money from their own paychecks to support their students and their classrooms. I'm excited to announce the launch of the Almost Home Military Family Match in partnership with DonorsChoose.org.

I'm giving $100K to support teachers that are working with military families, but I need your help.

The Almost Home MilFam Match will fund down every classroom project costing $1,000 or less to $98, so long as the class project contains the phrase "military families". The deal is, I'll donate, and then you can just give a little bit more to make sure the project's completed and the teacher's funded.

You can visit the Almost Home MilFam Match page for more information on the projects that qualify, projects supported, students impacted, and the donors who have mobilized to make these teachers' and kids' dreams a reality. The page is a real-time picture of the classrooms supported, and you can watch the progress live.

Please note: the Almost Home MilFam Match funding is for projects in classrooms servicing military families. To qualify, your project's total cost should not exceed $1,000 (this includes the optional donation, taxes, shipping, etc.) and should include the phrase “military families”. Only 1 project per teacher can qualify for this offer so we can support as many teachers as possible.

Thank you for supporting educators and students in this way and for encouraging others to do so too. You make the world a better place.

Hey Craig! What amazing and generous gift you are providing to public schools serving military students! Thank you! I had a quick question, my project just posted as $1,002. Do I need to delete it and have it re-posted to get it under $1000 or can it qualify at $1,002. I wrote the project as a special request and it is hard to gauge the cost before it is screened. Thank you again for your generosity, Merry Christmas and blessings to you and yours!

Hi Amy – yes it does need to be up to $1,000 to qualify for the challenge.

Hi there!

Thank you for being so willing to help military families! I have the pleasure of teaching military families on the Dover Air Force Base and I have a project currently up that still has $1,500 to go. If I get enough donations to put it under $1,000, would you be willing to help our project? You can visit it at http://www.donorschoose.org/project/sitting-still-is-overrated/1752739/?rf=link-siteshare-2015-12-teacher-teacher_1428427&challengeid=237959.

Fingers crossed! :)

Thank you for caring about Military families. One of my first grader's dad is serving a tour for the Air Force in Korea for a year. Her mom just got back from visiting him for two weeks. She came to the school on our last day before the Holiday Break to see her little girl. There were lots of tears. Imagine the reunion she'll have with her daddy after a year. We need to show our Military Families how much we care. If I get the Almost Home match on my project, I will finish it myself. Thank you!

I work as a Patient Advocate at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center in North Carolina. I would like to become a military teacher. How would I go about becoming a teacher. I am a veteran with a Masters Degree in Psychology.

Hi Craig! I was out of town for awhile and seemed to have missed out on the info and directions on this opportunity. You are doing an amazing thing once again! You are a blessing to DC and many teachers- including my very thankful class! I got a project up ASAP…..thankfully DC got it up very fast! I hope it's not too late! We are a rural community where serving in the military is an honor and very much appreciated! This is our little boy who got to "include" his Dad! (mentioned in my project!)

Mr. Newmark,

Thank you so much for your generosity! Since that project still has a couple of thousand to go after your donation, it may not get fully funded. Is there any way you can withdraw that donation and put the same donation to this project? http://www.donorschoose.org/project/financial-literacy-persuasive-writing-i/1832474/?rf=link-siteshare-2015-12-teacher-teacher_1989026&challengeid=315091

This would make it fully-funded, which my students would very much appreciate!
