We can't forget what service members and veterans have done for all Americans. We must also recognize that their families have also served the country.

This week was a celebration and a remembrance at Bob Woodruff Foundation's annual Stand Up For Heroes Fundraiser, in collaboration with the New York Comedy Festival. I had the honor to speak at the Veterans' Welcome Reception (which preceded the Fundraiser). I can't express my gratitude for the folks who fight for our freedom enough.

SU4H17The Craig Newmark Foundation partnered on the event alongside Veterans on Wallstreet, GFI Group Inc., and The Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation. One reason so many people are eager to support the folks at Bob Woodruff Foundation is because they're targeting the actual needs of transitioning vets. They do this through partnerships with community and national programs, other organizations, and the military community. But it also takes every day advocates and civilians to create healthy, positive futures for our service members, veterans and their families.

Performers at Stand Up For Heroes included Hasan Minhaj, John Mulaney, Trevor Noah, Conan O'Brien, John Oliver, Jon Stewart, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. A big thanks to all the folks (funnier than myself) who donated their time. It all goes to a really important cause.

Even if you weren't able to make the event last night, you can still join us in taking a #Stand4Heroes, and getting involved in other ways. I'm not speaking from experience, but from a place of deep gratitude and respect. As I've said before, the wounds of these injuries may not always be visible, and their impact is felt long after a service member returns home.
