Local VA centers can really help, but need help getting the word out. Check out the Facebook fan page for the Palo Alto VA Health Care System, and note the following story:
The VA and Housing and Urban Development (HUD) are working together to help, check out the story about how a Stockton mother and her children’s lives were changed by the VA Palo Alto Health Care System and a program called HUD/VASH Voucher.
The HUD-VASH program began in 1992 and authorizes about 10,000 vouchers a year. These vouchers are allocated to local Public Housing Authority(PHA) partners connected to VAs around the country. VA Palo Alto has received 530 vouchers to date, for use in Alameda, Monterey, Santa Clara, San Joaquin, San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties through collaboration with local PHA’s. Last thought on this topic — VA Palo Alto is looking for landlords to participate and there are a lot of benefits for you, too. If interested, email Allison Ulrich at allison.ulrich@va.gov.
